The purpose of this project was to distill key learning and insight from an analysis of best-in-class activity tourism destinations to inform planning, investment, and delivery of activity tourism in Ireland in the coming years. This included the selection of destinations, the identification of the key learnings, and the factors contributing to success in each chosen destination including drivers of success. The team conducted a meta-analysis across a range of destinations, and a consumer analysis. The team established a list of the elements/criteria that need to be in place for success and Ireland’s strengths and weaknesses against these criteria, identified the best opportunities to grow activity tourism in Ireland, and provided an outline of which actions are needed to deliver on the vision of Ireland as a world-class year-round activity destination.
